America, The Dusty, Home of the Free
Lyrics by Michael Cole
Gather around children; Let me tell you a story,
‘Bout that old’ Dust Bowl, bout’ that great tragedy,
‘Bout the struggles of children, the old and weary,
But promise me this, remember the legacy…
I remember the first day, cold and chilly,
The wind was howling, I think ‘bout 60.
I was sitting on my porch, just reading Huck Finny,
When I look on the horizon, there it comes, straight for me…
A cloud of Dust, so thick it blots out the sun,
So high, it touched the heavens,
Made me jump up and run,
I’s run into my house, barred the door clean shut,
Then kneeled and prayed, for my home in the sun.
The cloud hit like a Rock, It made a big Ka-Thunk,
Flying straight through my walls, and into my junk,
Of a house. It was like hell, and I could all but remember,
Neither the day of that storm, nor how long it dragged on.
After that day, I began to worry,
Is Oklahoma just not for me?
After years of staying, it was clear to see,
I should pack up my bags and leave this old country.
I thought to myself, where should I go,
Maybe New York City… No for Show,
The Glamour there’s too sophisticated for me.
Perhaps California, heard that’s the place to be,
Good land, nice and warm, blue skies all around,
Plenty of rain for farms, jobs in availability.
California’s the Place for me.
Mile by Mile, Driving day by day,
In my Ford Model T, Radio blaring away,
‘Bout those Big Dust Storms in Oklahoma City,
‘Bout the medical Wards, Beds filled in 3 by 3,
‘Bout the children’s last embrace, before Death take ‘em to Thee,
To our father in Heaven, the one and only.
For I am not there, I am sure lucky.
I arrive in California, though I start to grope,
“This Land is not all that I had hoped”,
It seemed all of America struggled to make ends meet,
For even in Cali the streets were busy,
With bread lines, and beggars, I start to see,
America’s not what it used to be.
Is America the place for me?

The 2010 FIFA world cup in AFRICA was one of the most momentous sporting events in history. The one time every 4 years where every country can put there differences aside and enjoy the one thing they all love and adore Futbol. This is the time when no one is judged by their color or religious beliefs, or cultural traditions. Instead every ones admires and accepts each others way of life. Hate is turned into love and anger becomes happiness, and differences are similarities.
The World cup for soccer is held every four years and is a very serious occasion for countries all over the world. It is not just a game, but a symbol and a way of life for most. Every world cup is held in a different host country to make it fair for every nation giving it the chance and honor to hold such an honorable event. FIFA stands for: Fédération Internationale de Football Association. This organization was first created to unite all people's regardless of race and culture to create a better stronger world society as a whole.

"I don’t have time to worry about something as petty as what I look like."
Recently, there was a feud between Lady Gaga and Adele about the weight of successful singers in America. They went on debating on the ideology of whether or not it's about just the music or if you have the body/looks to deserve to be on top. This useless argument just created an extreme tension between the two singers. Causing people to believe that their favorite singer is right about being overweight or not.
When you think about it, there's always that idea when you were younger of trying to be the perfect little girl and wanting everybody to notice how cute you are. This idea that was put into your brain from the countless comments that you received from your parents' friends complimenting their new child. When you didn't get a compliment, it would feel as though you did something wrong. The only feeling of accomplishment you got were from compliments and showing off what you made in class that day to your parents. Obviously, just being cute was less work for you, and being a child you'd choose the easier way. So you decide to care more about your looks rather than work that requires actual thinking. So then this idea stays with you all the way up until now (unless you're one of the lucky few that realize it's more than just beauty) and you're not using what you're born with the ideal way.
In Adele's interview for Rolling Stones Magazine, she openly talks about how shes happy with her weight and how she loves fine food and hates the gym. Also stated, "I love seeing Katy Perry's boobs and bum. Love it. But that's not what my music is about. I don't make music for eyes. I make music for ears." (Adele, 2011). Clearly, she feels no pressure at all of standing out from all of the skinny and fit singers as compared to her. She has shown people that beauty isn't everything and that everybody should be happy with how they look.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes
My work of culture is the movie The Rise of the Planet of the Apes which is relevant because it came out recently and was popular. This movie shows that humans find it much easier to simply destroy things then understand them and that modern businesses main goal is to make money above everything else. It doesn't support the ideology or break it the movie simply shows it.
The movie The Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a prequel to the 1968 film Planet of the Apes. The Rise of the Planet of the Apes shows how the apes got smarter and what caused the humans to die out and apes to take over.
The movie shows that Humans find it much easier to simply destroy things then understand them. An example of this is when the Humans found out about the apes they tried to kill them instead of trying to understand what was going on. Another thing the movie shows is that now days everyones main goal is to make money above everything else. An example of this in the movie is when the company only is interested in finding a cure for alzheimer's was for making a profit if there wasn't a profit to be made then they didn't care even if it could save other human lives.

"Wake Up Call"
Wake Up Call by Rebelution
I think this song is important because it really makes you think and it causes controversy because it talks about how the rich waste money on buying cars and materialistic items while the poor keep suffering, when they could easily donate money to charity. I think that wealthy people tend to be more selfish with their money because they tend to take things for granted. Rather than if they got the chance to see how it is to be poor they would know how good they really have it.
Personally i really like this song and it also goes along with my ideology that wealthy people shouldnt be so selfish, for lack of a better word. They should at least donate to the poor that suffer every day. Thats exactly what this song is about. This song shows us the reality that not everybody lives good and is wealthy.
For example, here are some lyrics that show us:
"But stay on top says the businessman, And let the world be left to strand."
or
"Yesterday I saw a man explain, why he bought his seventh car today, How does it feel to live the life you like, with millions of us left without a ride?"
These lyrics show us that the poor suffer everyday while the wealthy lives strong with no idea. This song really makes me think about what i would do if I had money to donate to the poor. When i went to the Phillippines there were a lot of kids living on the streets that would run up to you and hold their hands out begging for money.

Paragraph 1:
I think the song "The Garden" by Tribal Seeds is important because it relates to the usage of marijuana and not exactly making it legal but talking about how they are going to smoke it anyways even tho it is illegal. There is a controversy going on wether to make marijuana legal or to keep it banded. The song in general is not creating any trouble but it is promoting that there is nothing wrong with smoking and a personal choice. It is also part of an ongoing trend that is growing and getting more popular in the new generation. The song does not say much about America, but is just focusing on the misunderstanding of marijuana and saying that there is not a problem with it and it should be okay. Also that people are going to do it even though it is illegal and it is all over there is no secret that people smoke marijuana.
Paragraph 2:
"The Garden"-by Tribal Seeds
"Sensimilla is a gift from jah
I will not follow your man made law
Nah cause no trouble with jah herb in me pipe
Yes fire me up and yes me feel alright
Blaze up the green when me feeling the blues
To plant tribal seeds is what I and I choose
Never disraspect i will never abuse
It is laws of the book, I follow the rules
In I herbal garden is a sweet medicine for me
In I herbal garden is what inspired this melody"
This is an excerpt from the song and it really explains itself and the point that is trying to get across.
Paragraph #3
The bottom line of the story is that people are going to smoke even though it is illegal. Even the lyrics of the song talk about not following "your man made law." It something that people want to do and are going to do and there is really no stopping it. Look at alcohol, people get alcohol poisoning, people get sick, people black out, there is a lot of accidents because of drunk driving, etc. So if alcohol is legal why shouldn't marijuana?
