Reddit (Warning, link may include explicit content)

Reddit- Ben Barncord

Reddit is a social site which aggregates all kinds of content; from news, to advice on what to do in legal trouble. While a generally helpful society, like any society, there are some people on there who aren’t helpful. They are usually ousted from the site for being rude or unhelpful. Sometimes, people who appear to be unhelpful are actually just criticizing the overall structure of the website or the people who run it. Although people try to be helpful, the dominant society on it doesn’t really exist, since they have a lot of opposing ideas and opinions which most of the time lead to a neutral society.

Reddit is a social aggregation site where people can rate what people say. Due to the many different opinions, and having all of them in one space would be chaos, they made several subsections called subreddits. People on a subreddit have the same opinions on things or have questions about it, which they ask. To make prophylactic things known by others, they have a voting system where you can basically say if something is good or bad. Some things are more popular than others and some people try to get them most upvotes for their posts.

I think that, while there isn’t a dominant society, the people in the subreddits want things to be in dominant society. The religious ones want there to only be their religion, but since there are about the same amount of people in them, there isn’t any dominance. For politics though, generally, people are more freedom and the importance of the self. There aren’t really a lot of people who are against freedom and liberties, they were even breaking the Libya revolution story a week before the news did. I do believe that they are a generally good society with a dominant culture of naturalness and happiness

Your analysis on Reddit contains both the positive and negative aspects of the site which helps give the idea that Reddit is a website where anyone can discuss/learn about a certain favored topic. One thing I thought that you might have left out was that Reddit seems to only 'upvote' ideas that are viewed positively by the 'hivemind' rather than comments that are critical to creating an intellectual debate. Overall, I can agree with you that Reddit is very well structured form of society that promotes happiness and the reality of things.
